Vet, I am as mad as anyone else, but your mis-statements are flat wrong and a bit too much. Please reread para. seven (7) of the article. Fulmer said, "it starts with me" & I'm not blaming the kids." At least, be honest about what people say. Being mad and blaming are two different things.
Well, to a large extent, Fulmer should be extremely mad and blame the kids. Foster fumbled. Foster sacked his own QB. Crompton was "pizz pore" in his passing. WRs dropping balls if by some miracle Crompton ever got one close to a receiver! But coaching, like Spiderman letting Crompton get smashed by UCLA D by his ridiculous play calling, was bad. Etc., etc. Chavis did not adjust in 2nd half. Four interceptions in the 1st half and the offense only scores one TD????
And, if we are comparing how long we have been vol fans or UTK alumni, I listened to the vols on radio in 1945 when I was born!! So, 1 second old.

awhill00 9:33 post.
Thanks for the link. Chris Low nailed it. But said what every one else knows. Just as Custer's last stand has inspired so many books on failure, this game and UT's meltdown, in every phase of the game, losing badly to a inferior opponent, etc., will be a "classic" for years to come on how not to play football. This is UCLA's "win one for the Gipper" stuff.
Every person watching or listening to the game knew the UT offense stunk!! At least, we should have run the ball more in the 2nd half. Every one on the planet knew, except our new OC, spiderman. HE got caught in his own web. All the UCLA D had to do was converge about 5 yards behind the UT center where Crompton would be firmly planted--every time!
Must have been very boring for the UCLA D. They could have rushed with their eyes closed. This was totally an offensive (pun intended) nightmare. IF, and a big "IF," UT offense would have gotten a few first downs, maybe a score, instead of all of those miserable three and outs, our defense would not have been under so much pressure in the 2nd half. If! If! If!
Four interceptions in the first half and all our puny little offense can come up with is one score?? The other touchdown was scored by the defense. Welcome to the bottom of the SEC. Does Foster get credit for a "sack" for nailing Crompton in UT backfield? And, what everyone else has said!

Haven't read any where near all the posts, but wait just one minute. Foster should get a A for the tackle he made in our backfield on Crompton. All you Cromptonites were yelling last year for EA'S head and praising Crompton as the future--well you got him. One of the very few things the coaches got right in the game was to go for the field goal in OT. Not for the tie, you idiots, but to continue the game. Lincoln missed a chip shot. UCLA's second and third string better than our first string--sad, sad.

uh oh #2. Looks like I picked a bad time to quit drinking! DTs and all that. Not Jonathon--but, Jonathan. 1,000 humble apologies this time. OK, no more posts for me til Tuesday after UT wins big over UCLA. Hic.

UH OH!! Before any one starts it. I know our QB is JOnathOn CrOmptOn. Sorry. Most humble apology offered. But, you can't spell WIN without an "i".

Is UCLAs defense so good that it bangs up it's own QBs?? Last year, EA was sacked only about four times for the entire season--Will UCLA sack Crompton that many times in this game? Or does he have moves to escape?? Our OL will be the big key in this game. UT will try to run as much as possible early--maybe a long pass or two to loosen things up--but if that doesn't work, our WRs will go to work--long. Think Peerless Price in the '98 NC game. With OL help, Cromptin will have an impressive game. GOVOLS!!

bigfan 502,
About the 15th para starting with "Touchy Touchy:" Hooker writes, (shortened for brevity) that coach Chavis BRISTLED when asked if he "hoped" that Vinson's and Langley's one game suspension would be a learning experence for them. Not clear if Hooker or some one else asked the question. It is clear that it is a very dumb question. Obviously, beyond any question the Chief hopes, wants, and expects the suspension to teach them something. DUH!!! GOVOLS!! UT 35, UCLA 17.
How about a new KNS poll? Should the game meal serve fritters with unsweet tea or sweet tea??

Coach Chavis had every right to "bristle" when asked such a stupid question. What was Chavis supposed to say--"Duh, no I hope they learn absolutely nothing from this experience." This line of questioning was about as dumb as some of the KNS polls. GOVOLS. UT beats UCLA 35 to 17.

Vet,
I agree!! I am disgusted too! But, it is bad enough without using mis-statements. That's all, nothing more. As I said a a previous post, that game and the coaching will be a classic on how not to play football. Fodder for UCLA folklore for many years to come. Still have visions of Chow laughing at UT. Makes one shudder. Peace!
On Game film makes Fulmer madder
