I wasn't at the game, but was glued to the tv for it. Like everyone else, I couldn't have felt worse for Colquitt. I would have loved to have seen Jerry play the whole year. He was a difference maker.
Richvol: By Helton's own admission, the conservative play calling with him in there was as much his fault as the coaches. Maybe more. He has admitted not really paying attention in meetings or having a very good grasp of the offense. He never expected to play. Which sort of makes his play that day and the next few games even more impressive.

LVET: I owe you an apology. I apologize for wording my "rant" (I really don't consider myself a ranter, but that was kind of a rant, wasn't it?) so personally. I don't know you, and I'm sure you're a good person. I know it doesn't seem like it, but I really wasn't talking to you so much as to a group of people who regularly post on here who seem to not only discourage talk of former players, coaches and administrators, but actually get fairly vitriolic about it from time to time. Perhaps I lumped you into that category unfairly. So I'm sorry for directing it toward you. My point, however, remains the same. In contrast to your view, I think GoVols Extra is exactly the place we should look for info on former players. In fact, I don't know where else we would look. The title of this section is "Vols In The Pros". There really isn't anywhere else, ESPN.com, SI.com, CBS Sportsline, Fox Sports, etc... where we can find info on former Vols. Unless they're the starting QB in the Super Bowl or playing in the World Series or the NBA Finals or some other high profile event, the national publications and web sites can't devote space to something with such a small audience (in the grand scheme of things) as UT fans. So I think GoVolsXtra is exactly the place we should look for good articles about some of our favorite players from the past. And by the way, I don't think it has to one or the other; I don't think it's stories about current Vols vs. stories about former Vols. That's the great thing about web sites; they can put as many articles as they want on here. I don't believe this article or any like it appear at the expense of other articles about current players. Just in addition to them.

Yea, I mean enough about Candace Parker. And Peyton Manning, and Jerrod Mayo and Todd Helton, and Chris Burke, and R.A. Dickey. And all those sweet articles about C.J. Watson's journey from Europe to the NBDL to Golden State? Trash them. Who wants to read about successful former UT athletes? Well, me; that's who. And anybody who's even remotely interested in the larger world of sports outside Knox county. Your myopic view of what sports journalism should be on this web site an its sister newspaper is breathtaking in its shallowness. While we're at it, let's get rid of all high school coverage. You know; cause those kids might not even go to UT. They might, God forbid, go to another school so let's not even get that started. I don't give a crap about the WNBA, but even I know that Candace's success as a rookie in that league does nothing but reflect well on the Big Orange, as does Peyton's and Jerrod's and all the other "former" UT athletes. So pardon me if I want to hear about their careers after they're gone. I have an idea. Just don't read the article that's titled "Parker Makes Herself Right At Home In Sacramento". Leave the broader world of sports for the rest of us.

Why is Gerald Jones not considered a "difference maker" at wide receiver? I'm not being sarcastic; I just thought everyone was really stoked about getting him the ball this year.

Like I've said before, regardless of their record, Kentrail Davis is worth the price of admission. We all better get out and see him while he's here. It'll make watching him on Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN that much more fun in a few years.

Even Mike Hamilton knew this season was going to be tough, which was one of the reasons the decision was made to pull the trigger when he did on Delmonico. Raleigh was well aware of the potential for this season to be rough when he took the job. I don't know whether the guy can coach or not, but I think it's ridiculous to form an opinion after a season of him coaching Rod's players. You got to remember that Bruce Pearl is the extreme exception, not the rule. Baseball programs just don't turn around in one season unless there's also an influx of superstar pitching along with the new coach. Raleigh deserves to at least have one recruiting class show up before he's dissected into tiny bits. Besides, there's lots of young talent on that squad to be excited about. K. Davis is worth the price of admission.

The incredible house of basketball success that Joan and Pat have built is massive, unprecedented and amazing. But it is made of glass none the less. If the NCAA finds violations to be worthy of penalty, then they'll hand that down to our friends in Connecticut. And if they do not find much more than a tour of ESPN in the area of violations, then the penalties will be minor. Either way, those of us in the glass house must prepare for the rock throwing to begin. I hope the glass is strong.

Actually I'm not as upset as that post reads. I just thought it a little odd that the local CBS affiliate decided to preempt the national news broadcast where one of our players was being spotlighted. I'll live.
