gobigorange has the same philosophy about deductible donations as the liberals in this country. You only do it for the tas write off. Let's see, you give away $600,000 so that you can save $210,000 in taxes (if you are in the top bracket of 35%). Yep, makes sense to me!

People donate money because they care. Otherwise, Pat would have kept $390,000 in her pocket and paid the taxes.

Let's get into the prediction game ourselves!

Out of conference: 4-0
SEC East: 4-1 or 3-2
SEC West: Auburn, Alabama, Miss St, should go 2-1 at worst.

So, at Auburn, at Georgia, Florida at home are three games that should not go automatically into the win column. Win 2 of those and go to the SECCG and possibly MNC. Win 1 of 3 and maybe go to SECCG and probably BSC Bowl. Lose all three or slip up with someone else, it is back to the Outback!

To me, the ND fans are in the same category as the Florida fans expecting their defense to be better because they are a year older. To me, that just doesn't make much sense. While I would expect some improvement from freshman to sophomores, that improvement is usually in understanding the system, not physical.

The Florida defense last year was porous to say the least. They lost their best player in Harvey. Yet, UF fans expect to see Florida in the MNC because the defense will be better this year. I expect that Florida will continue to have problems putting pressure on the QB, stopping the running game, and covering in man-to-man defense.

I expect that ND will continue to struggle with the OL, as someone mentioned above. In the college game, you just don't see 6, 7, or 8 game improvements in one season. If GoIrish expects to beat Michigan, Michigan St, Purdue, USC, etc., and finish 10-2, I think he is drinking the green koolaid. If I were in his shoes, I would be estatic with a 7-5, 8-4 record and WIN a bowl game.

The one thing that everyone is missing is that Florida can not send this kid a letter of intent until the signing period in the fall of 2010. Anyone in the world can make a statement of, "I am committing to the (fill in the school of your choice) to play collegiate sports with them.

There is nothing the school can say positive or negative about this. My 15 year old daughter, who plays a mean french horn, could announce tomorrow that she is committing to UT to play softball even though she has never even played the game at any level, including family reunions.

I put this more into the category of kids wanting attention than schools recruiting.

My opinion!

You folks need to get a life. nafslov was OBVIOUSLY being sarcastic with his comments at 3:21. I think that bulk of the race issues went away at the player level just a few (tongue in cheek) years ago. I am not sure all of the fans have been as accepting of all of the players, but that is not the issue here.

I believe if you go the JUCO route, you must stay 2 years. If you transfer to a 4 year school after one or two years, you now must wait until 3 years after you graduate high school

"Nope. Not even real close. SC produces a ton of D1 prospects and especially when population is taken into account. They probably produce more 4-5* players per capita than any other SEC state. SC HS football quality is amongst the best in the country."

Well, sorry, there was a better arguement from Workin about total D1 prospects. From 2000 census and previous rivals.com site, the top state for D1 prospects per 100,000 population:

Rank State Population Div1 PerCapita
1 Mississippi 2,844,658 74 2.60
2 Florida 15,982,378 358 2.23
3 Alabama 4,447,100 95 2.13
4 Hawaii 1,211,537 24 1.98
5 Georgia 8,186,453 158 1.93
6 DC 572,059 11 1.92
7 Louisiana 4,468,976 82 1.83
8 Texas 20,851,820 374 1.79
9 Ohio 11,353,140 146 1.28
10 South Carolina 4,012,012 48 1.19
11 Arkansas 2,673,400 28 1.04
12 California 33,871,648 347 1.02
18 Tennessee 5,689,283 47 0.82

As you can see, Arkansas and South Carolina are right there together at 10 and 11. My surprise was Mississippi leading the pack!

Well, we are both kinda right. According to Rivals.com on May 28, 2008, we get:

State Staying Leaving Total

South Carolina 18 30 48
Tennessee 17 30 47
Arkansas 20 8 28

While SC does have more Div 1 athletes, Arkansas actually keeps more to themselves. I threw TN in just for comparison. To see the entire list, go to:

GerryOP:

It is called having a job. Been here for 15 years and, primarily due to the church family I have here, will probably never leave except to go to Knoxville on game day and to visit my family in Franklin (TN), Atlanta and Athens (AL).

The only really bad thing is that my daughter was corrupted by the local schools. She was 1 when we moved here and I never realized the influence of elementary school. She is required to keep her Gator stuff in her room, no visible signs outside the house.

Fortuneately, my two older sons are both UT orange, even the one that just graduated from UF. It was neat seeing all of his UT stuff in his dorm room!

As a continuation to the previous post, look at the coaches in the SEC:

Fulmer - MNC
Meyer - MNC
Richt - BCS
Spurrier - MNC
Brooks
Johnson

Myles - MNC
Saban - MNC
Petrino - BCS Bowls
Crooms
Tuberville - Should have MNC, BSC
Nutt

Without doing any research, I can't think of another conference that has anywhere close to this kind of talent.

Each of these coaches has a great pedigree and, for the most part, has been extremely successful either at their current school or a previous school. Does Vandy suffer for talent? Absolutely. Would Johnson be a success at Auburn? Absolutely. The days of Gary Denardo in the SEC is past. Like it or not, there is not a single coach on that list that would not be successful at UT (as much as I don't like Saban!).
