I may not recall the exact years but, I first became aware of coach auriema when Rebecca Lobo was in her junior year and Ucon vs Tenn was just heating up as the premier rivalry in womens basketball. I thought coach auriema was a character but, I never doubted his passion for the sport or his abilities as a coach. I thought it was great to have a competent rival in the sport because it made the game better. As fate often does it sometimes rode with Uconn and other times with Tennessee as the years went by. Coach auriema continued to be a character and the talent and abilities displayed by players of both universities continued to improve. This was also< I believe< a good thing. Rebecca Lobo's first year of broadcasting for ESPN on womens basketball games began to open my eyes regarding the attitude of coach auriema and how it leached into his players past and present. Lobo's obvious bias in favor of Uconn and against Tennessee was unmistakable and I believe an embarassment for ESPN. I believe they counseled Lobo to lose her bias and give credit where it was due during her broadcast work. In her second season I saw no indication of outward expression of her Uconn bias. She was a better broadcaster for it and ESPN's product was improved because of it.
Here's the thing...Pat is such a great ambassador for the womens game and is so gracious in her lauding of other coaches in the profession. Coach auriema seems to be the opposite..a kind of dark entity that appears so very jealous of Pat and the lofty perch she resides on. This year has done much to tarnish coach auriema's reputation not just regarding the rules of basketball recruiting but, also his continual whining about "the feud" in the press. He helped create the situation and the athletic department at Uconn owns some culpability as well. Coach Auriema may coach for 50 years and win 15 national titles...but he will never own the respect and the integrity that coach Summitt is afforded for her lifetime of work in the womens game. Geno, you'll never be Pat and thats the bottom line. All your animosity is gonna give you ulcers and deservedly so. See you down the road a piece.

Deadre Charles...sounds like a good potential hire....especially if she can teach rebounding as well as she practiced the art....as I recall, if it was close, she came down with it.
