I'm having a tough time deciding who my favorite Rupp Arena victor is in the ever-enjoyable Billy Gillispie Era: Gardner-Webb, San Diego or VMI?

On VMI stuns Kentucky, 111-103

And for the person earlier who asked about the broadcast team for our game against UCLA, it's Mike Patrick and Todd Blackledge. In other words, two guys very familiar with SEC football. I'll try to make sure Mike doesn't bring up Britney Spears again.

On Fulmer busy Monday promoting Vols at ESPN

In case you're wondering OrangePower, I'm the mysterious Smokey on CFB Live. Spoke to CPF this afternoon and we laughed about some of the grief I gave him and his team while writing for the Beacon during that forgettable '02 season. Frankly, I was shocked to learn he actually picked up the Beacon (probably his kids). As Andreas (primetimevols) said, UT has quite a strong presence on the college football landscape here in Bristol. We not only have Andreas and the CFB Live director, but we also have UT grads Joe and Gene Wojciechowski, the latter of which is ESPN.com's national columnist. There are quite a few more of us UT grads spread out in all areas of the company...much more than what you're led to believe by the paranoid fringe who think everyone at ESPN is out to get our Vols. Every Saturday in the fall, I'm the researcher for our studio team of Rece, Mayday and Coach Holtz, which means I work and travel with them year-round and do a lot of their homework, complete with all my orange-tinted opinions. TRUST ME, they're not lacking for UT info. I'm watching about 18 TVs with them all day long during fall Saturdays and have their ear throughout (let's just say watching the Bama game with Rece is, um, intense). I also write weekly for ESPN.com during the season and am one of two researchers for CFB Live (the other being a Florida grad...somehow we've managed to remain friends). So when you hear the name Smokey, you'll know it's a faithful reader of GoVolsXtra and a fan of all our lovable commenters. And you'll know the Vols are well-represented at the Worldwide Leader. I've been here for nearly four years now and I can promise you there's no conspiracy (if for no other reason than them knowing they have to deal with the wrath of a cranky researcher who is not shy with his opinions).

On Fulmer busy Monday promoting Vols at ESPN

This is the second straight News Sentinel story that claims Fulmer has taken UT to six SEC Championship Games since '97. I'm no math major, but 1997, 1998, 2001, 2004 and 2007 equals five appearances. What am I missing here?

P.S. This isn't meant to start a Fulmer argument...but we might as well get the facts correct, no?

On Some not fans of raises for coaches

I realize Allan Houston and Dale Ellis are very deserving, and their day will come...but a big No. 5 better be hanging from the TBA rafters on Opening Night in November. That's coming from a recent testicular cancer survivor who underwent chemo at almost the exact same time that Chris did. What an inspiration. A true Tennessee legend. And there's no need for a true Tennessee legend to wait for his jersey to be retired. It should be up regardless of this...now even more so. Get it done, Hamilton.

On Lofton reveals cancer battle

As a recent cancer survivor at 25 and someone whose father is currently battling a rare form of a cancer, this cause obviously hits close to home. Thank you Zane, thank you coach Raleigh and thank you UT for putting on this great event and bringing even further awareness to something that HAS TO BE BEATEN!

On Cancer hits home for Vols

dwolfcreek, i'm pretty sure ESPN is not the thing holding back women's basketball. what a dumb comment. how can u ask them to join the bandwagon when they've been broadcasting all 63 games of the tournament for years and are constantly promoting it, despite only average ratings? it's ESPN that has been LEADING the bandwagon...it's up to the others to catch up.

On Contract for greatness

That was some brilliant commentary, LadyVolsEighTimes. My 92-year-old grandma doesn't wear an American flag pin either...she wears a Lady Vols one. I guess she's not just patriotic enough for you. Perhaps you and Senator BossVol McCarthy can go crack some heads over at the nursing home and find out who's really a true American. Have fun with that.

In the meantime, does anyone remember that UConn clown that used to come on here all the time? Oh HuskyFan, where art thou? We "Tennessee hillbillies" really hope you aren't having a tough time with all this. Don't worry so much, friend...football is just around the corner! Another trip to the Meineke Car Care Bowl might soon await your beloved Huskies!

Sorry Grim, you lost me by the first sentence. In what world are Wayne Chism, Duke Crews and Ramar Smith even CONSIDERING going pro?

jcorange98, is it really possible you're that stupid? please tell me you're just a degenerate that's drunk because you're a bad gambler and can't come up with any other reason as to why you keep losing money.
