and just for clarification, I do enjoying reading about former vols, but really, does this article deserve a pat on the back and a pulitzer prize? Any article written on any day is written as well as this one.

they are shortening the game so that they can add more advertising time without making everything longer cause people are complaining about how long the games last.

They only want to add more advertising time. period.

On NCAA tweaks clock in football

I get goosebumps and, on occasion, a little misty eyed when I here an old Ward call, especially the old staticky ones.

There is a great and discernable gap between the voice of the Vols recent and present, although Kesling has improved his basketball commentary.

On Ward knew 1998 Vols were special

how the odds work...

odds makers make an educated guess on a number that will make sports betters bet an equal number of $$ on both teams.

Their are statiticians (not football stat guys per se, but MIT kinda math guys) that track the amount of money being bet, betting habits, etc. and they determine a number (partly based on actual football experts) that will make sports betters for both teams maximize their bets and make both sides bet an equal amount.

Suppose 1000 people bet $100,00 on TN and 1000 people bet 80,000 on UCLA. They then adjust the line so that more people start betting on UCLA, so that by game time, with proper tweaking of the line, an equal amount of money is bet by both sides so that they ALWAYS make the rake as a profit and they do not ever risk having to pay alot of money to one side while getting very little from the other side. They make the line and adjust the line accordingly ONLY to make people bet equally on both teams. It has nothing to do with what they actually think the final score will be.

Vols 27 (with early scoring)
UCLA 17 (scoring late)
