I was concerned about Crompton, and was vilified for it. To say the receivers were at fault is suspect in my opinion. Come on folks, watch that game over if you can. They may have been confused, but only at why the ball was either overthrown or aimed at their feet! Lucas, Gerald et all showed talent last year, as did the offensive line. We know what they can do. Anyone who has played the game can tell you that a quarterback that zeroes in on his receivers from the scrimmage is having trouble. We can afford the pick or the fumble either. We need dramatic improvement at QB for the UAB game, period.

On Crompton doesn't start practice

The season may not be in the tank yet, but do you honestly think we aren't whistling past the graveyard? We've got a murderer's row of SEC games coming up in a few weeks...and people are going to grouse after seeing errors year after year that aren't addressed...especially with that contract in recent memory.

Flavol2,

Crompton is a Junior, with two full games under his belt from 2006. Ainge played well as a true freshmen, as did Casey Clausen when he was given the reins midway through his Frosh year. It can be done.

Give them a chance? Where have you been these last few seasons? The excuses are running thin.

I find it quite ironic that someone whose username commemorates a great victory in 1982 over a hated rival, now pronounces winning as overrated.

Maybe you should change your name to reflect one of our losses instead?

tr617,

That's funny. I was going to say that actually it is Crompton that is soaking in the pre-season reviews of how 'good' he was supposed to be. There certainly were enough of his enablers running around here spouting that propaganda. This is the same line that did a great job of protection last year, and blocked pretty well running the ball. The offensive line didn't make Crompton throw the ball either at the receivers feet or over their heads. I hope am eating my words come December, but you should have the humility to eat yours now, after the performance last night.

On UT report card for UCLA

Rockford,

It isn't just this inexcusable loss to an injury riddled team that gave us four turnovers. It's the pattern. Florida puts up 59 on us, Bama over 40. Cal whipped us. If you think these longstanding issues will get corrected by UAB or Florida, then you aren't being realistic. We see patterns on defense that indicate outdated schemes.

You say recruits are going to schools with unquestioned loyalty. That's your anecdotal opinion only. It also may have something to do with those other programs not losing to the likes of mid-tier PAC-10 teams two years in a row.

That's why these sportscasters and columnists are local.

Absolutely VolinMemphis, UCLA was a MASH unit...and they still took it to us. Awful.

Ah yes, the 'true fan' crap. Look folks, you can be a true vol fan and love your team. It doesn't mean you have to be a dishonest football fan, who continues to make excuses time after time.
