How could anyone vote for Bruce over Pat? He's a great coach, but a couple of good (not great yet) seasons can not possibly trump Pat's career legacty. That's crazy.

Pat should be the highest paid in her field because she is the best----the record is clear on that, no matter which way you look at it---numbers don't lie, and reputations rarely do. The thing that strikes me, though, is that the job market for men's basketball coaches, from junior high school through the NBA and all points in between, is 100% gender exclusive---men only need apply. On the women's side, not so. In our über enlightened, post-modern society, we still have our "no girls allowed" sign at the treehouse while insisting that the sandbox is for everyone. In that light, making a man the highest paid in the women's game seems a little 1950s. "Lucy---I'm home!" "Oh, Ricky---why can't I have a little more money to by a new hat?" It's a little disgusting. She needs to be the highest paid, and it is to make a point, and it is a point worth making because it absolutely transcends basketball. She's way bigger than the game she rules.

okay....I'm all for giving these guys a chance.....BUT....over the past couple of days we've been "stealing" recruits away from places like Coastal Carolina, Gardner-Webb, and Portland State, none of whom I was previously aware actually had more than intramural flag football on their respective campuses....looks a like the new guys might be bringing in a little too much of their IAA experience....I'm sure these kids would play great against East Carolina and James Madison, but how are they going to do against the 4- and 5-star talent at Florida, UGa, LSU, Bama, etc., etc., etc.....????? I guess we'll have to wait & see...

I'm as big a UT football fan as anyone, and I am still a grudging supporter of Fulmer, but to suggest he's done more for UT athletics than Pat Summitt is absurd. She's as recognizable, as associated with the whole Big Orange thing, more succesful, and more universally respected outside the UT community (& I'll bet inside it, too).

As an educator who also deals with a large number of students in an extracurricular setting, I completely empathize with Phil Fulmer. The very best teenagers I know are still teenagers, and as such are prone to agonizingly frustrating lapses of judgment and acts of sheer stupidity. They need a firm hand, yes, but the need guidance and encouragement as well. I deal with the "off with their heads" mentality a lot from people who feel my discipline isn't harsh enough---and, like Phil, I can only point to the success stories from over the years----kids I chose not to dismiss from the program who grew from their mistakes and have become people of good character. Mistakes are part of learning. Also, these kids in the UT football program have been with Fulmer for 1, 2, 3, maybe 4 years---they've been with their parents a lot longer than that. What happened to good old fashioned home training? Phil is not their daddy or mommy, and frankly, he shouldn't be expected to be---the fact that he takes such an interest in their development as people tells me that he's better suited for the head football coaching position at my Alma Mater than an awful lot of coaches out there.
Here's another thought---I'm sure some will take issue with this because most people subscribe to this irrational and illogical way of thinking----they aren't Tennessee Football players 24-7-365. Sometimes they're Math students----anyone point fingers at Colquitt's math professor and demand his job? Sometimes they're just idiot kids---who is to blame then? Expecting any head coach to be responsible for his or her players' behavior absolutely all of the time is stupid and unreasonable. And please don't respond with "but he makes so much money!"---that's a hollow argument.

BigOrange_supporter---I admire your willingness to try to find something positive, or maybe some reason other than bad coaching and bad playing to explain our loss, but UCLA showed what kind of talent they have in the first half (very little, and most of it hurt and unable to play) and they showed what kind of heart and coaching they have in the second half (superior to ours on both counts). We are in big, big, big trouble right now and it's going to take a near miracle to pull us out of it. I'm not saying it can't be done, but 5 of our next 8 opponents either have better talent or better coaches than we do, and in most cases have both. It is conceivable that we end the season having only beaten UAB, Northern Illinois, & Wyoming. This situation is unacceptable, it is not an "aberration", and it can only be resolved by radical change, and everyone knows exactly what that means.
