volster, You are ignorant. I'm guessing you are another one of the bandwagon fans who just started watching Tennessee basketball this year.
Any right minded Tennessee fan will respect our opponents....especially those teams that own us...as the Wildcats do. Kentucky is still the standard bearer for this conference and we have a very long way to go to catch them.

marinevol, If you think it's over for them, then you will most likely be getting a rude awakening. Kentucky has some major talent coming in along with a healthy Jodie Meeks and that basketball freak Patterson. I sure would not feel sad for them....we better tighten up or they will give us all we want and more.
On top of this, we also have a very good Florida team to deal with.

volster. You don't know recruiting do you?? The Zollo kid is a top prospect even at his age....Tennessee wanted him too. Avery is 6-4 and can shoot from anywhere on the floor. He plays AAU ball against high schoolers....and wins. He was already being looked at by UCLA, USC, Arizona and Washington State. If Gillispie did not get him this early, somebody else would.
This is just the nature of recruiting these days. Basketball is much more organized and the talent level of players is much greater. Of course, an eighth grader is the exception and not the rule. Gillispie saw an exceptionally gifted player and the kid's parents were receptive to the offer.
Just wait, Pearl will start going after them too. He will have to.

Maybe we can hire Cohen.

budd, Give Raleigh a chance. The Kentucky team is a very, very good team and to lose to them is not an embarassment.

John,
You say that we beat out Kentucky for Maze. The fact is that he was NEVER offered by Kentucky. They were not going to offer him, period. Too many character issues that they will not accept.
Personally, I wish we would have passed on him too. I think he will be gone in a year or less. That he will go to an NAIA school and possibly a couple of years in Europe before ending up back in the US doing a manual labor job.
Our next player to come out of Hutchinson will be Bud Mackey, once he serves his time for the drug dealing.

volsthetruth. Kentucky did not take back their offer......they never made an offer to begin with. Too many character issues that they did not want to deal with.
Kentucky did get one of our top recruits yesterday though, Jon Hood. Tenneessee and Duke both wanted him very badly.

Maze will be gone in a year or less....and not for the NBA. Our next Hutchinson C.C. thug will be Bud Mackey. He has to deal with an upcoming drug dealing sentence first.
Why in the world would Bruce bring in these players that do not represent the team and the university with character and integrity?? We are becoming just like Memphis for crying out loud!! This is going to come back and bite us.
I just wonder if Bruce is taking such high risk chances for short term gains to help him get that NBA job he is looking for.

I also see that we lost Jon Hood to Kentucky. He is one that we really wanted badly. Of course Duke did not get him either, so that is a good thing.

marinevol. I am simply recognizing something you refuse to....and that is that Kentucky is still Kentucky. We have not done anything to displace them as the best program in the SEC. Even in a year full of injuries and a new coach, they still managed to beat us in Lexington and come within a hiccup of beating us here.
I am a Vol fan thru and thru. But I am also smart enough to know that we are still a team that has not made it past the sweet sixteen much less a Final Four....so we have NO room to talk. Kentucky has been there and has the 7 championship banners to show for it. Hopefully that will change for us in the future.
You can also bet that Pearl will be looking at younger players in the future. Like it or not, it is a direction that recruiting is going and until the NCAA does something to change it, we will have to live with it. Personally, I don't think it is such a bad thing because it involves families more in the decision than some AAU coach or outside "consultants"
On Hood picks Kentucky along with 8th- and 9th-grader
