As I said I was disappointed he was not better as well. But some on here are ready to get a rope and a tree for this kid.
We seem to forget that as patch work as UCLA's offense was the same was not true for their defense.
Their biggest weakness on paper any way was some in the secondary so why not attack that?
Should we have ran more and passed less? I think so. But we have to give Crompton a fair chance. Someone mentioned earlier this is his 3 offensive system and this was his 1st starting experience under this system. There were several dropped balls by receivers that caused the competion % to be below 50%. There was a total let down by everyone on and off the field in this game.
I believe Crompton os going to become a good if not great QB at UT but like everuone of us who has ever been placed in a new job position you are not always going to make the right choice eveytime when you begin.
I believe he deserves the opportunity to get better is all.

It wasn't Crompton's fault. Hasn't anybody been paying attention on here? It is all Fulmers fault. Everything that has ever happened to UT football that was bad is all Fulmers fault.
Forget that we have the most experienced O line in the conference. That just last year they only allowed 4 sacks. Crompton got sacked twiced and hurried all night because Fulmer is coach.
Perfection is hard to come by. As a matter of fact I have yet to know anyone human who has lived everyday of their life, performed every job task they were ever given perfectly. But somehow after just one game as a full time starter we expected perfection. There isn't one person on here or anywhere for that matter that if those were the expections of them, me included, would not have been fired.
It is alright to be passionate about UT football, it is great that you want perfection but it is unreasonable to expect it. Yes it happened in'98 and how many other times in our lifetime have we seen that?
Crompton did not play well at all against UCLA. There is no debate about that. Should we expect more? Yes I think there was not a single person, including myself, that was not disappointed. But who here has such a perfect lifetime that they feel they have a right to jump this kid like I am seeing here.
Workin, and the rest of you who feel so holier than thou Grow UP.
It was just one game. The point being GAME. None of us even come close to being qualifed to even make this team.
The sky ain't falling chicken little. He will get better and so will this team. Will it ever be good enough? Not if you expect perfection. UF didn't have it last year, neither did LSU and they won a NC. GA surely wasn't perfect they lost to a sorry UT. I said sorry because that is what I am reading here.
All the name calling is really mature. I raised my children to act better than that so I would expect adults to as well.

So TommyJack
It was Fulmers fault not Fosters that he fumbled inside the 5 yd line?
And Fulmers fault that this experienced offensive line forgot to block on a pass play that got Crompton sacked and put UT out of fieldgoal range?
The half dozen dropped passes by receivers that my HS kid could have caught that was Fulmers fault as well?
Again I am not defending the coaching staff there was plenty to blame them for as well. But players have to take ownership for not doing what we all have seen them do before.

Last year under Myers spread (the first full year of using it) UF lost 3 conference games and got beat by Michigan in a bowl game
Last year under Saban's new offensive system Bama lost 6 games including a loss to a 1-AA team.
You talk about these coaches as if they are all untouchable or unbeatable.
Richt's offense has lost 3 out of the last 4 to UT. The same UT that has such a terrible defense.
If someone out there actually knows of a coach or a team that is unbeatable, not unbeaten (there is a difference) let someone know who could actually make it happen.
This offensive system is going to take some time.
I was wrong to expect otherwise but still believe it should have been better against UCL.
Fulmer isn't going to get fired with the payout it would take. If you believe otherwise you are fooling yourself. UT already has budget problems and any investor who invests as much money as the boosters have in this program is going to give it a chance. So Clawson is not going anywhere and neither is Fulmer. We may not like it but that's the facts.
The best we can hope for is that lesson were learned against UCLA and things will be done to straighten out the problems.
Moaning and groaning on here didn;t work last year and that ain't chamgin this year.

I am not supporting Fulmer. What is perfectly clear though it is more than Just Fulmer that is wrong here.
I know he get the ultimate blame not arguing that. But what I saw Monday night was a total breakdown of a team and blame should be spread like cheesewhip to cover the whole sandwich.

My point is "you can take a horse to water but you can't make him drink"
Everyone wants to pounce on the coaches but it doesn't and shouldn't stop there. The players have to perform what they are taught. These kids did not get sch. offers to play at a major university not knowing how to run routes, or pass block for that matter.
Workin questioned the play call that got Crompton sacked. I question the blocking. Had the line done its job and Crompton completes that pass who knows. Clawson called a good game but the execution of the plays by the players was poor at best. That falls on everybodys shoulds for this team not just the coaches.
Was the game plan perfect? No none ever is. Did the players play up to their abilities and talents? I don't think they were even close and if you asked them they would agree.
It wasn't just one thing or one person. You can take this as an opportunity to bash Fulmer all you want, some seek those opportunties. But the big picture tells us that it was much more than any one person. Does Fulmer have the ultimate responsibility? Of course he does and it should be placed on his shoulders. Again though, it was not just the coaches who let us down here it was also the players.

First: It was just ONE game.
Second: Open your eyes. The players failed to execute the plays called. I agree we should have run more but in the end we have to have a passing game. The receivers ran poor routes, Crompton's passing was suspect at best. I have seen him throw much better (LSU '06) so I know he can. I believe protecting him throughout camp was the wrong move. The last 2 years we took off the protecting to get the QB game ready and that was with a QB who already had 2 full seasons under his belt. If we do not straighten up our passing game then teams will cram the line and the running game will go down. Look at the last couple of years.
Third: Blown opportunities (1) 1st and goal on the 6, (2) 1st down at UCLA'a 25 following Jones punt return, (3,4,5) missed field goals. Yes I know 2 were beyond 50 yrds. But just taking those and putting up a min. of 3 points per and you add 12 points to regulation and you can forget #5.
Coaches can coach all they want but if the players don't execute on the field we are not going to win.
Now I don't know if the players were cocky and didn't take UCLA seriously. Maybe UCLA had more to prove. I don't know if this was what we can expect or it was just a learning process for Crompton and the offense as a whole under a new system. What I do know is if you compelte just half of those passes missed then UT wins that game. They had UCLA's QB rattled and yes we should have brought the Kitchen sink after him until he proved he could "take a lick and keep on ticking".
Fourth: Again it was just one game. There needs to be major improvements before UAB even, let alone UF and the rest of the SEC. This change in our schedule is looking better now that this game was played. 2 weeks to prepare for the next game and then play a team that should allow some fine tuning of what changes we had to make following this game.
Lets hope as fans that this was Just One Game.

JA stated in another article that UT plays better with their back against the wall. My question is why must our back be against the wall to play better.
Isn't playing in the SEC against Bama, UF, GA, Auburn, and LSU enough of a challenge without having to dig out of a hole?
"Crompton said the pressure is something he has to learn to deal with."
Maybe if the coaches removed the green jersey during the scrimmages he would know how to deal with the pressure already.
I saw some life last night but it looked more like "The Night of the Living Dead"

How can SC lose this. According to what I have read on this site the only top 25 team that could ever lose to a unranled team is UT. SC has a great defense, everyone said so following the NCS game. Vandy doesn't even have a sports department for their Univrsity.
Only Fulmer could coach a team to an embarassing loss on National tv in primetime.
