never made a comment on drayton.

don't know how good or bad a coach he is. just don't think he was a good fit teaching meyer's system.

always room on the bandwagon.

i really do think tenn will get better throughout the season.

but, i think they have too far to go in too short a period of time because their schedule is front loaded.

if tenn can turn this around and get a win or wins against florida, georgia, or auburn.....it would be a truly great accomplishment.

i am still in shock as to how bad they looked monday.

this is all so zook-like.

someone tell me what constitutes playing poorly to the staff.

i may be reading things wrong.....

but, i interpret this quote.....

"I thought for the most part he made some really good plays, and he had two or three plays that will get you beat," Fulmer said. "He's by far our most game-ready quarterback, and he's done a nice job. He's had one game and threw one interception."

as......

we don't have a good qb. all we are asking our qb to do is not throw interceptions. he only threw one, therefore, he had a good game.

i know i may get ripped for that. but, that's how i interpret this version of coach speak.

could not agree more regarding chavis.

ucla could not...

1. run the ball
2. stretch the field vertically
3. make yards after catch.

they were soooo limited in what they could do. and to be allowed to do the one thing they could.

i still can't believe what i saw. when tenn scored with less than 2 minutes left i thought "ball game".

heck, i thought "ball game" when tennessee tied the game at 7 and certainly when they had the pick 6 before the half.

never seen a team lose a game that they were so obviously superior without directly handing the game away (like having 7 turnovers or something) or punt bama punt.

also forgot....

4. those games that referred to are accepted as abberations because they don't happen with regularity. the vols loss to memphis in 1996 is an example. but, in the last few years....games like ucla are not all that shocking anymore. the 2005 season. in 2007, being a field goal away from losing to vandy, sc, and ky. you all can list more examples than me. that kind of performance is no longer scarce. i am sure bear bryant lost a game or two like that in his career. a game or two.

i am guessing here....

but, i think the main concern here is....

1. do the coaches learn from their mistakes. from what others have posted, this mustang package and 4th quarter collapse is not a new thing.

2. that the opponents are going to be a lot tougher.

3. that, by reputation, crompton had a stronger arm than ainge and short hopped a lot of passes. his ankle may have been worse than anyone knows.....thus no designed rollouts. is this going to be like ainge's pinky?

i acutally agree with most all of your points. only thing is i don't think ucla is very good. so hard to judge how good or bad things are.

several misconceptions need to be cleared up as well for the future....

1. ucla is not a good football team. in addtion, ucla did not play well. the game was lost to a bad team that played poorly. it's not like ucla played the game of their lives. far from it. that is why people are ticked off.

2. tennessee plays well with its backs against the wall. why is its back against the wall in the 1st place? besides georgia in 2007, what other big victories have they had with their back against the wall? wasn't their back against the wall for entire 2005 season?

3. no more picking on the coaching staffs of other teams. read some stuff picking on neuheisel before the year started. even some stuff on chow.....like..... easy to coach reggie bush and carson palmer. not a great coach, just had good talent. no more anger that fulmer is listed as the 7th best coach in the SEC behind petrino or richt or whomever. rich brooks would not have lost that game with tenn's team and neither would the coach at vandy.

4. no more.... no one respects us stuff. why is georgia ranked ahead of us? we won the east last year. why does no one pick us to win the east this year?

5. losing the captain of the offense (4yr starting qb) and losing the captain of the defense (a high 1st round draft pick) matters.

6. people will stop being negative when they see something positive. this is a simple thing. all of you are proud to be vols....but, would rather be sec champion vols than peach bowl vols. just because some people would rather not go to the peach bowl does not mean they don't bleed tennessee orange through and through.

1. "Nobody spends the time we spend on the kicking game," Fulmer said.

oh, god i hope not. you waste a lot of practice time then. when was the last time tenn took a punt or kickoff back for a td. when was the last time tenn blocked a punt. i know they blocked a fg against kentucky last year. but, special teams has been weak for a while. ucla did not block that punt. 5 guys ate they dang ball.

2. "Some of the coaches were still kind of down from the loss because we expected to go out there and win," Hardesty said.

why were they down? should not have been down. should have been ticked off. and why aren't the players mad as hell. a read a quote from crompton saying they played good. is that true? and.....down because we expected to win..... are their some games you go out and expect to lose? when you lose those games, is it ok?

3. this is an admission of culpability. if they made that many mistakes....then, indeed, they were not prepared and not, as the ol' ball coach would say, coached up well. simple as that. sad part is, i have a feeling that some of the mistakes should not have taken anyone by surprise...... including the coaches.

lot of bad mojo here folks. i'm mad as hell for you.

not saying anything about those players not being good. but, the trend at tennessee is to play the upperclassman first....even if the younger guys may have a little something.

jamal lewis is an exception.

ahmad paige might be an all-sec wr the one year he'll get to see the field. then everyone will ask where was he in 2008.

just can't believe austin rogers is the best or one of the best tenn's got. can't be true.

i indicated in the summer that was one of the things about tennessee i did not like (the wr's).

i was told about ahmad paige, kenny o'neil (no longer in school), and someone else would be new blood at the position to add big play ability.

also, crompton was so much better than ainge and has a stronger arm....tenn would have more big plays deep.

clawson would also get the ball in the hands of the playmakers.

against ucla....gerald jones 6 touches. kevin cooper 5 touches.
