Charles-Furlow was in her junior season at Tennessee when she one day reached a breaking point. It had been a bad day at school, but she obviously had to practice.
"Pat really hit a nerve that day," Charles-Furlow said. "She kept riding me and riding me, and I finally yelled, 'I am doing the best I can do!' The arena became silent. My teammates looked at me like, 'No she didn't (just do that).'
"Pat called me over. She was kneeling on one knee. She said, 'Not in a million years did I think you would disrespect me.' I said, 'Disrespect you?'"
The two women spoke the next day, and Charles-Furlow apologized.
"She told me, 'The day you should worry is the day I say nothing to you,'" Charles-Furlow said. "I had a better love for her after that as a person and as a friend. Once you have gone through that program, you are prepared for anything that happens to you in life. And you're not going to walk out of Tennessee without your degree. I'm glad Pat is that way. I think if she had been nice to me (on the court), I don't think I'd be the person I am today."

It's high time we had a nasty post presence. We've seen a number of finesse 5-spots over the years. It's time we use a real banger at the post position. Not since Tif Johnson, Dana Johnson and Vonda Ward have we seen those big 'lunch pale bangers' in there willing to take heads off to get in position to board and/or block.
Night Train was one who wore her hard hat to practice and to the game. Catchings was a lot like Charles in her work ethic. Train left the court with not a dry thread remaining on her uni. That's the kind of hard work and determination that will teach these young'uns to get fired up and refuse to lose. A trio of All Americans on the sidelines, WOW! I can't wait for hoop season.

What a relief. I just knew Holly did not really want to leave Big Orange Country. I don't think there's enough money to make Holly coach against the Lady Vols. She and Train and Pat will have this crop of LVs in ship shape by Jan '09, and that's just fine!

I'm thinking that's a very long, skinny limb you are climbing out on to guarantee 10 more years for Pat Summitt at the head coaching position at Tennessee. I have no guarantees to offer, but I dare say Pat will not desire to coach even 5 years from now. I simply have an opinion. That is that after pat reaches the 1000 win pinnacle; perhaps another year or two to reach 10 championships, she will step down. Especially if she has to endure the continuing aggravation from the doubters and accusers who insist on mouthing incessantly.
Yes, I know Pat is tough as nails, but as she has stated numerous times "when the game is no longer fun, I will know it is time to leave." All you 55+ women out there may understand why this may be sooner than later.

Holly will hold out for the top job at UT. There's none better to fill that position when Pat hangs up her whistle for the last time.
It will be great to have Dawn Staley in the SEC. She'll bring some fire to the SC program which has been sluggish and slow ever since Shannon (Pee Wee) Johnson graduated. They took us to overtime that season ('96). Nancy Wilson was the coach then. They had a little guard , Nikki Miars that could shoot lights out from anywhere on the court. I digress.
It would be nice to see SC become more competitive. Dawn Staley would get some fine recruits, I suspect. I know she can coach.
Bottom line: I just don't want to lose Holly.

Has anyone noticed the shot clock glitches in the NBA playoffs? There's been several, latest being last night Pistons vs Magic. Homecooking shotclock might possibly have gotten another w for the Pistons. The clock stuck on 4. something to go in the 3rd quarter, Billups got a shot off to put Detroit up by 1. The officials messed around for several minutes deciding what to do. They could not go to the tape because the clock was not on 00. That's the rule. they ruled the trey good. Later it was determined to have taken too much time to get the shot off to have possibly counted (of course, unofficially). Pistons won the game, but the shot was a momentum swing that was definitely questionable.
Makes our little Rutgers thing seem insignificant in the big picture.

ONE word, tenn32rebel, ATTRITION. Stuff happens. The cream rises to the top. Some injuries occur. Some get their feelings hurt, then transfer. Some keep the bench warm. Just maybe, a superstar or two will come out of it. Who knows? Yes Believe!

w, it is very unlikely that Kelly would be interested in stepping down. She is a head coach now and I suspect she will move up in status to one of the elite programs since she has had a winning record at Western Carolina. She might be a candidate to replace Pat when the time comes. I thought Holly would stay put and slide right into that job of Lady Vols' Head Coach.
Is this not recruiting season? Who's out snagging our next class of All-Americans while all this transition is taking place? Help!
I just want to log in one day soon and see that all our pieces are in place to have another banner hoop season. In the meantime I want to keep up with our WNBA rookies kickin' butt in the pros.
