Knoxville Police Chief Sterling P. Owen IV and Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam stand outside of the UT emergency room. Police are searching for "two or three" men who shot Norman Rickman as he responded to a burglar alarm call just after 3 p.m. on Rockbridge Lane in Northwest Knoxville near the city limits. Rickman also was shot on duty in 2001. Rickman was not wearing a protective vest today, according to Police Chief Sterling P. Owen IV, or in the 2001 shooting. "He was struck several times," Owen said. "He's in surgery and he's stable." |
