An adult osprey with a young bird perches on a nest on the superstructure of the Norfolk Southern railroad bridge across Fort Loudoun Lake in Downtown Knoxville. One of the largest birds of prey in North America, the osprey eats fish almost exclusively. It is one of the most widespread species of bird in the world, found on all continents except Antarctica. Ospreys are known to build nests on manmade structures such as telephone poles, channel markers and nest platforms designed especially for that purpose. |
