Tennessee center Josh McNeil is one of 42 players named to the watch list for the Rimington Trophy, given annually to the nation’s top college center.
Four other SEC centers were named to the list, including last year’s winner, Arkansas center Jonathan Luigs.
McNeil, a junior and native of Collins, Miss., has started 23 consecutive games for the Vols and earned honorable mention on the Associated Press’s All-SEC team last season. He was a unanimous selection to the freshman All-SEC coaches’ team in 2006.
The Rimington Trophy goes to the player with the most combined first-team votes from the four major All-America teams: the American Football Coaches Association, the Walter Camp Foundation, The Sporting News and the Football Writers Association of America.

How can this be? Based on many of the posts on this site, going into his third year McNeil should be a much worse player because of bad coaching by now! Hope he wins this, and repeats next year.

42 centers on the watch list? I think there are only about 117 1st-team centers in the whole division.

Was Luigs' win last year because the Razorbacks had two fantastic RBs in McFadden & Felix Jones, and the offensive line got credit for their good run blocking? (They did a great job against us, that's for sure!) With the RBs and Nutt gone, and Petrino the head coach in Fayetteville, maybe the Rimington will be wide open. If our OL plays well, with Josh McNeil (and Anthony Parker) a returning three year starter, I think he has a chance. Go Josh! Go Vols! SAVol
