Tennessee softball player Tonya Callahan was named SEC Player of the Year on Wednesday night in Baton Rouge. La.
The senior third baseman hit .500 (30-for-60) in SEC play this season with 10 home runs and 25 RBIs. She is the second-consecutive Lady Vol to win the award, following India Chiles in 2007.
Callahan led the league in batting average, slugging percentage (1.033), on-base percentage (.684) and walks (33, 15 intentionally). She also was named first-team All-SEC for the third consecutive time.
Senior shortstop Kenora Posey was a second-team All-SEC pick, as well as an All-SEC Defensive selection. First baseman Jen Lapicki was named to the All-Freshman team.
No. 14 Tennessee (46-13, 14-12 SEC) plays Georgia at noon today in the first round of the SEC tournament.
