COLUMBIA, S.C. - Devan Downey, who led South Carolina in scoring last season as a sophomore, has been charged with simple assault.
University spokesman Russ McKinney said the charge stemmed from an argument Downey had with another student on campus last week.
McKinney says the student decided to seek charges Monday after asking police not to press charges when they initially investigated the incident.
Athletic department spokesman Steve Fink said Downey has been suspended from the team per a school policy to immediately suspend any athlete who is arrested.
Downey started every game for the Gamecocks last season, averaging 18.4 points.
He was at the Richland County jail Monday night. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.

Fulmer's fault... Adams should write another article.

That student must be a real p*ssy to file a battery charge against a midget!

You're right, sjt ... Fulmer's doing his evil bidding once again. It's so sad to see that he's moved to basketball.
He was probably behind the Eight Belles tragedy last Saturday, too.
Stay the course.
Have a fritter.
Post a YouTube url.
Give us a couple of "FOOLmore"'s.

arn't you supposed to give jocks your lunch money and girlfriends?
maybe if he's lucky the kid who was arguing with him will settle for a couple semesters of tuition.

Fulmer funds the money to these kids to get the knowledge for them to know how to create a simple assault.

I'm glad it wasn't complicated assault.

Little stevie superior has obviously lost control of his program. A change is needed at the top. tuscaloosa john should investigate. Maybe bring in Dan Rather, another "journalist" known for integrity.

Does Spurrier coach the basketball team down there too nowadays? I mean I detest the guy, but even I wouldn't try to pin this one on him.

sjt18, dude thats not funny anymore. Ok yeah it was funny about mmmmmmm 4 months ago. But when someone post it one very article that comes out about players getting into trouble its not funny.
P.S. Fillip "The Big Pumpkin" Phulmer should be fired.

sjt18-- good point. I think he's also responsible for the federal deficit, global warming, job outsourcing, and Al Gore's heated pool.
eVOLution-- your comment was HILARIOUS! "The Big Pumpkin"-- how original, because Phil is not very slim, and he wears orange! Golly, what a great wisecrack! You really should do stand-up comedy for a living.

bowerst, therein lies the joke, obscure as it may be. There are some here who want to pin everything bad on CPF. Why not pin every sin of the 'cocks on ?

Maybe this is a future UT transfer?

Sorry, me slow on the uptake. Anyways, in this day and age, we seemingly have to put up with some of this stuff. Nebraska used to be able to run a winning program with good kids, but now that is apparently history as well.
There's really nothing funny about it. Sometimes a player can be innocent and it's a punk trying to show how tough he is by fighting an athlete. But usually, talent on the field and on the court trumps all the character flaws. Fans are every bit as much to blame as coaches.

Gen F, how far out are the KPD ride-alongs booked?
Do we have any openings?

Adams: USC basketball needs "another" change at the top.

Hey Spurrier, ya can't spell scandal without SC.
But you could almost spell "mad a_s" with Adams.

Don't believe ol' Stevie can take many more years of ol' SC Siwash. Ego will make him walk back to golf in the Sunshine State away from his not beloved home state.

I sure hope that steve stays at SC so there will be many more years of FP kicking his as$
