The first-ever BlackBerry Gridiron Bash Ultimate Fan Competition is entering the home stretch, and Tennessee is in 7th place with ticket sales, text and online votes.
Alabama is in the lead; Texas A&M and Penn State in distant 2nd and 3rd places, and National Champ LSU is in 10th place. In the past several days, South Carolina has jumped from 11th place to a 4th place standing, and Army remains in last place.
“With the Gridiron Bash on Friday and the Orange and White game on Saturday, this should be a great weekend for Tennessee fans,” said Tennessee head coach Phillip Fulmer. “Some of our biggest competitors on the playing field are competing with us for the Grid Iron Bash for Cash. I’d like to encourage our fans to get in the game and help us bring home the $1 million prize to help our great university.”
Daily school standings are being posted on www.gridironbash.com, as well as information on how to place a vote for your school. Results are also being displayed in weekly national advertisements in both the Sports and Life sections of USA Today.
Fans vote for Tennessee by purchasing tickets, texting VOLS to 23909, or placing an online vote.
Tied to spring football games and including pep rallies and live concerts with nationally known names at football stadiums, the BlackBerry Gridiron Bash fan competition – being billed as the USA TODAY Bash for Cash Series™ – will be based 70% on fan attendance at BlackBerry Gridiron Bash events and 30% on text in and online votes. (The winning school receives $1 Million; 2nd Place receives $500,000 and 3rd Place gets $250,000.) The roster of participating schools with performing artist match-ups includes: Penn State-Fergie; Iowa-Kelly Clarkson; Utah-Maroon 5; Alabama-Alan Jackson; Colorado-Counting Crows; Texas A&M-ZZ Top; LSU-Kid Rock and Sara Evans; Kansas State-Goo Goo Dolls; Tennessee-Taylor Swift and Montgomery Gentry; Maryland-Good Charlotte and O.A.R.; South Carolina-Black Crowes; West Virginia-Dwight Yoakam; Arizona State-3 Doors Down; Kentucky-Dierks Bentley & Wynonna; Army-John Legend, and Rutgers-special guest.
All except for three of the schools have three weeks to close the gap, as the events are being held April 18th, the Friday before spring games. LSU’s BlackBerry® Gridiron Bash™ is April 4th, and Alabama’s is April 11th.
“Alabama’s fans are outshining all others,” says Shawn Garrity, president of MSL Sports and Entertainment (creator and producer of BlackBerry Gridiron Bash nationwide).
“But that could change quickly as we enter the home stretch of the competition. Some schools are just now really getting into the game. It’s not too late.”

Clearly, Texas A&M and West Virginia got the best of this deal... If ZZ Top or Dwight Yoakam were playing in Neyland I'd be there in a heartbeat... Instead we got the girl who sings "Teardrops on my Guitar" - makes you wanna get hyped up for some southern football, huh?!

Wow, did Tennessee ever get the short end of the entertainment stick
Goo Goo Dolls vs. Caged Bear Killers?
Dwight Yoakam vs. Ms. Reality Show?
Do the Knoxville performers even know how to read music?
What a stupic concept this whole thing has been....don't look for a "Second Big Year" of mediocre musical acts.
this is Neyland Freakin' Stadium...Not the old Underground!

Gentlemen ... I hate to inform you but this is Tennessee we are in the SOUTH ... Montgomery Gentry and Taylor Swift could only be replaced by George Straight and Garth Brooks to draw a bigger crowd. I know people here like to think of themselves as sophisticated and cultured when it comes to music. As far as ZZ top and Dwight Yoakam goes? Senior Citizens and a man with pants tight enough to see the veins in his leg. Wait for the turn out. We could get Kenny "I'm a gator fan when it's convenient" Chesney

BOASoldier: You beat me to it! I wouldn't go to ZZ Top if you gave me tickets, but have seen Montgomery Gentry several times and they are great! You are never going to get someone that pleases everybody especially all UT fans, but at least UT has people with recent hits.

Yet another contest where Alabama is leading TN. They already beat us on the field, in recruiting, and even the Fulmer cup. Now this. Dang.
I must say, though, that ZZ Top rocks. How old are they, anyway? They've looked that way for about 40 years.

No kidding VolsorCat BOA, Montgomery Gentry is huge particularly in the South. They played at the World's Fair site two years ago before the Cal game (Victory) and i was there, it was one of the best live shows I have been to, Rock or Country. Count me in!
