Nyshier Oliver has committed to play football for Tennessee. The 5-foot-11, 185 pounder from St. Peter's prep in New Jersey City, N.J., told the News Sentinel on Saturday he hopes to play defensive back in college.
Oliver had approximately a dozen offers, including invites from Ohio State and Michigan.
Oliver is UT's third commitment in three days as the Vols hold their football camp this week. Running back Jarvis Giles of Gaither High School in Tampa, Fla., committed Friday. Offensive lineman Kevin Revis of Rhea County committed Thursday.
As a junior he rushed for over 1,500 yards and scored 24 touchdowns.
Oliver is UT's seventh commitment for the 2009 signing class. He joins Giles, Revis, receiver Je'Ron Stokes of Northeast High in Philadelphia, Pa., tailback Toney Williams of Milton High in Alpharetta, Ga., running back Dominique Allen from Henry County High in Paris, Tenn., and athlete Damien Thigpen from Stonewall Jackson High in Manassas, Va.
More later online and in Sunday's News Sentinel.

Man, what a great weekend for recruiting news in football! Now if we can get Negedu in basketball we can truly say June was a good month for recruiting all around.

Yes, yes, yes!!!!!
The 0-3-8 base defense is becoming closer and closer to a reality!!!!!!!

What does Jarvis Giles' verbal do to our status with David Oku?
Anyone have any insight?

LOL tigervol...as funny as it sounds, it may not be that unrealistic.

It's funny, true, sad, and nerve-wrecking.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to pick up these recruits, but I have still heard very little about anything up front. There's little there to begin with and you CANNOT win in the SEC if you don't have it up front I don't care how many skill position athletes you have.
I just shake my head and wonder.

It looks like to me it shows these new coaches has something called work ethic , maybe Chavis needs to look that word up and find out what it means and put the food down and step away from the table and start pulling his weight ...oops should I really say get to work. He is what you call pathetic

I believe thesavageorange was prophetic. He pretty much called this one yesterday.

Right on, tigervol...I've been wondering for the past 2 years about the DT position. At least for now, it sure doesn't look like we're picking them up.
I have to believe that we're recruiting DT's (I hope), but why aren't we getting any? It's not like a recruit wouldn't be able to see our need in that position.
Something's going on....has to be.

Another 4.4 40 guy. Looks like this class is starting to take shape! Congrats to the coaches and welcome to the Vol family Nyshier! Let's go recruit some "D" linemen.

WOW!!!!!! I can't beleive all these kids are committing despite my comments on here. Don't they read this board all the time and make their decisions based on my opinions? LOL!!!
Posted by yemmusdarb on June 14, 2008 at 1:58 p.m. (Suggest removal)
orvol: this prospect has been close to committing to UT for a few weeks now, so I'm not sure just how much prophecy was involved there.
volinlsuland: he's actually a 4* DB
Posted by KingsportVol on June 14, 2008 at 2:03 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Maybe Chavis is thinking when his water breaks and he has the twins that he can suit them up and play them this year. I agree with tiger.Glad to have the quality 3 and 4 star players. But where's the beef? It's great that we have the speed to run someone down after they have already smoked us for 10 or 15 yards on the ground.0-3-8 full time prevent D won't win many games.
Posted by VolPride_13 on June 14, 2008 at 2:28 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Can we make it four commits in four days?
Probably not, lol!!!
Posted by thesavageorange on June 14, 2008 at 2:42 p.m. (Suggest removal)
orvol , Now let's see if I was right about Foster. It's not clear if he's on campus or not ,but if he is I believe he's next.
As I have said ,my days off are dedicated to family so I may not have any more news untill tomorrow.(snuck on)
Posted by VOLS85 on June 14, 2008 at 2:45 p.m. (Suggest removal)
volpride...it only took six minutes after your comment to announce our pick up of the fourth commitment in four days! ohhh the doldrums!
Posted by thesavageorange on June 14, 2008 at 2:52 p.m. (Suggest removal)
I originally said we would get 3-4 commits coming out of camp.I wasn't counting on Phillips so who knows.

I think we need a rule of no more than 2 posts back-to-back (tngeoff). It's kind of annoying to see youtube links, as if someone can't go search for the exact same video if they wanted to.
This kid should make a great CB. I hope they don't expect him to play S because he isn't very big.

I like tngeoff's youtube posts. Haven't checked the above out, yet. Loved the Rocky Top one. Welcome aboard Oliver...Go Vols!

K.eep posting tngeoff, you are a master of youtube. I enjoy it
Just as Chavis will be the master of the 2-9.
For awhile....

pd ditto.geoff that's your thing. Keep doing it brother. 2-9 D will work well with most out of conference foes. It will work as well as nair hair remover on big foot with SEC opponents.

How many running backs do we need?? Hopefully some of these RB's will see the light at other positions.
