Despite persistent rumors to the contrary Wednesday, Zach Rogers has not committed to Tennessee.
The wide receiver from David Lipscomb High School said he expects to make his decision possibly as soon as this weekend.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder has long been thought to be leaning toward UT, if not already silently committed. Rogers older brother, Austin Rogers, is a junior receiver at UT.
Zach Rogers ranks as the News Sentinel's fifth-best prospect in the state.
In April, Rogers posted a camp-best 4.47-second time in the 40-yard dash in the Nike camp in Athens, Ga., which uses stringent laser timing. On a handheld stopwatch, Rogers has run 40 yards in less than 4.4 seconds.
Rogers has offers from Vanderbilt, Auburn, Alabama, Arkansas, South Carolina, Texas Tech, Duke and Oklahoma State.
New Recruiter: Tennessee commitment Josh Nunes said he's doing his best to give UT's football recruiting a boost.
The quarterback from Upland (Calif.) High School said he's called Rogers, Memphis receiver Marlon Brown and athlete Logan Thomas from Brookville High School in Lynchburg, Va., to tell them of the virtues of being a Volunteer.
"Hopefully I can help a lot," Nunes said. "I think we have things rolling right now. We have a lot of momentum right now, especially on the offensive side of the ball."
Nunes said he's also informing UT coaches of some prospects in California who might be willing to consider UT.
"A lot of guys are loving Tennessee right now," Nunes said.

Who's going to be the first to ask if Nunes knows the names of any defensive tackles he can pass along to CPF and staff?
Posted by vol4good on July 23, 2008 at 11:16 p.m. (Suggest removal)
LOL FWBVol--My thoughts exactly. Would be nice to stop the run in the near future. Mabye we can get Big John Henderson and Al Haynesworth to help recruit. Hey does Marcus Stroud have a younger brother?

Thanks for the Vol-related article. I'd like to get all 3 of those guys Nunes has been calling. We'd pretty much be set on offense recruiting other than maybe another OL or two. I really hope we can pull in 3 DT's, 2 DE's, and maybe 2 or 3 highly rated LB's. That would solidify our class into the top 5.

Just watched his video on Rivals. This kid looks like he can play to me. He looks like he really knows how to go up and get it and he is fast. He gets north south in a hurry too. I am a fan of his brother but I think he'll be even better. Come on Zach, you know you want to play for the Orange & White on Saturdays!

Once again instead of positive comments the trash speaks out! First of all you tards, he is a Qb, Hello, he is recruiting offense! Not DT or DE! It is funny, what if Fulmer got the top three D tackles and ends some of the white trash around here would complain about something! Hey Workin', no comment yet about an idiot like yourself, which we all know you are, or some other crap about bringing us all down! Go Vols! Nunes is a stud and is working his butt off for UT! GO VOLS, GO FULMER and GO NUNES! Let's all put an end to the white trash that attacks our team! Everybody ignore these retards that attack Fulmer, the Vols, Chavis or anyone we support! GO VOLS!!!

If Nunes is informing us of potential UT recruits from California, I'm sure that he wouldn't limit himself to just offensive players, but it is probably skill position players that he knows best from the camps. I'd like to fill our 2009 class with Top 5 talent--we already have a good base. Go Vols! SAVol

rockytop..Agree I think?I know what you are talking about with the negativity but not posted on this article. It's not negative to state that we would really like get a few committs from future orange wearing DT studs.
ps.I for one wouldn't trade Fulmer for anybody.I truly believe he is capable and will Coach the VOLS to atleast a couple more Championships.
Now,if anybody is wondering, yes I do like my orange koolaid. It really helps if it's cold and frost brewed.

rockytop-I know where you are coming from. amen.
gnm53108- I have to agree with you also.
"It's not negative to state that we would really like get a few committs from future orange wearing DT studs."
However, as we daily read through all the articles, the same, endless doomsday scenarios played out repeatedly, the 3rd grade name calling, throw in a few non conference trolls and a sports director at the KNOXVILLE news sentinal an anti-Vol, sometimes the frustration culminates itself in the wrong article.
Regarding the article, I think that we are going to get Zach.
Zach, you grew up a vol, down deep you know you are a vol. Come be a vol with your brother.
3 reasons he comes:
1. his brother
2. You know that he has dreamed all his life of playing here.
3. He has to hold out a lil to make Phil sweat a lil and promise him his fair share of opportunities for playing time. Plus, he gets hero treatment at his visits to other universities around the country.
Thanks Nunes for jumping in head first. Your bio is impressive so far. Study film!
RTYAB.....HSH2M.....GORT.....RTT...RTT!!!
GO BIG ORANGE!

ROcky Top,
Who better to evaluate Defensive LIneman than a QB that has had them in his face over the last three or four years? If nothing else he knows the ones that always seemed to give his team fits, and preassured him.

The news of the day from an orange perspective, though, is that Mark May (ESPS) included Jonathan Crompton in his list of QBs to watch this year and also named Tennessee as his sleeper for the national championship "due to the offensive line." Woo for Mr. May.

Volunteer, I saw that. I was even more shocked that Drunkin Lou Holtz did not pick ND to win it all. Come on down Zack, wear the ORANGE big guy. I think he will be better than his brother but if he is AS good as big bro' then that suits me.Logan Thomas is the wildcard here. We all want M.Brown and have a great shot at landing him. But L.Thomas is just lingering and he seems to be high on vols as well, not to mention our O-staff recruites VA. real well.

Year of the Offense. I wonder what the other schools are using against Chavis and UT? The only thing I can think of is the number of DL that have been moved to the OL once they get here, but you can see that at all schools. To me it looks like a golden opportunity for some DL stud to come in here for immediate playing time. Maybe they are scared of our OL. How would you like to go up against these guys - two of which can bench press over 600 lbs?
Posted by FLVol on July 24, 2008 at 7:22 a.m. (Suggest removal)
I think defensive strategies are starting to change and the importance of the true DT in college football is diminishing a bit. The reason is that with the spread offense so prevelant, you need more qualified athletes on the field to handle matchups that the offense is trying to create. This requires more athletic players in the secondary/linebacking corps. Also, DE's are turning into DT's while LB's are lining up on the line of scrimmage.

I think the Vols will end up getting Zach Rogers. Just a hunch...
I'm impressed with Nunes so far. When he committed he had never seen Knoxville or Clawson's offense (and probably has still not). That made me think he may be more easily persuaded by other schools, but it looks as though he is following through with his decision.

Respect your elders regardless of how they might embarrass themselves Francis. Use of impolite words retards, old farts(old which we will be one day Lord willing), morons ,etc bring down your other mostly valid posts. Lets stick to topic and try to see if we can be 'coached up' to a more intelligent site that doesn't get stunk(real word?) up like some of our competitors. Or is just to easy for us to sound and look like dumb rednecks they think we are? I know we aren't, but lets not give them any ammunition in that area. Go Vols!!! C'mon Zach and friends to Big Orange Country!

We may have a shot at Zach as long as he doesn't read Nafslov's diatribes on his brother. I'm hoping/expecting to see a break out year for Austin and Lucas Taylor.

jmbigorange,
True, with some of the rumors mills on the rise, some recruits looking our way are....
Akiem Hicks..D/T Chris Bonds..D/E
D.J. Swearinger..Saf Jerrod Askew..L/B
Pete White..O/G.. Reuben Randle..W/R
Marlon Brown..W/R Corey Gaines..D/T-O/T
These eight are giving us a good hard look.A few others that we have a shot at are...
Quinton Wasington..O/G Johnny Farms..O/G
Chris Drummond..D/T Anthony Orr..D/T
Khalil Wilkes..O/G
Out of the first eight I hope we get all of them. The only problem with Brown is,he said he was going to wait til signing day to commit. He had better watch because we are after two others beside them,Rogers is one! Getting the first eight is possible,Gaines,Askew,Bonds,Hicks, and Swearinger would only solidify our defense to virtually unstoppable adding Drummond,Wilkes and Orr would be icing on the cake. One I left off the list is Morgan Moses O/T.Only problem with him is, gpa. He is now currently retaking a freshman class .Looks to be the juco route for him.I believe UT will end up in the top 5-6 this year.

LOL
Remember when me and Big Fletch had that "Lets go get 'em" feeling pre-season. But no more, too many days of same old, same old.........
We had 2 of the 37 defensive picks for pre-season All-SEC. Telling ? Maybe not, we can hope.

mikes70gto, i agree with you . I would love to have those 8. I think we have a good shot with all of them except Randle. I just think he'll be a tiger(LSU) when said and done. That's okay as long as we could reel in brown which i think we will. Bonds, Gaines, Hicks, Drummond, White, Askew, Telfort & Myles or Swearinger would be awesome.

Watch out for Duke to slip in here and steal one. If Austin liked departed Coach Cutcliffe, Zack may choose that route. These private school guys like academic institutions.
Great to see Nunes recruiting for us. There are so many kids in California he could help us on and it has been a fertile provider of talent for UT for years.
I don't care if Morgan Moses is having GPA trouble. If you haven't seen his clips they are terrific. We need this young man and we have plenty of tutors.

savage- very astute. I concur KNS, at least give him a column.
The more I watch video and read about Gerald Jones, wow. I hope Clawson opens it up and puts people everywhere. How hard will it be to defend our playmakers rotating through multiple positions. Jones just going from wideout to slot, then to QB or splitback, foster working out of the backfield, with warren working the middle of the field and a trio of capable receivers. I am just so stoked. I get tingles, and sometimes teary eyed, watching all the videos from the past and present.

BSweet ,Most of the big visits have come and gone. There may be a couple more , but w/ practice starting the staff will be quite busy.If theire is any news it would be my suspected commitment of Rogers, and I think the next one will be Peter White the 4* OG from (DC)within the next couple of weeks. If it happens, that will give us 18 commits, only about 8-9 shy of a full class.Sorry when it takes time to get back to you.

Nunes is a highly athletic and intelligent player as judged from his test scores and things we already know about him. Im sure he would advise any skill players on offense of the virtues of being a Vol but once again he is VERY INTELLIGENT. He knows we could use some DT and DE help, if you dont think one of our own commitments knows that youre sorely wrong. He understands those needs could be the difference between him winning a NC in a few years or just going to a BCS bowl or SEC championship. I think he would call and advise any defensive players he thought could help that UT might be a good fit. This kid is really sharp. The vast majority of the big time recruits know each other no matter which side of the ball they are on , i know this from experience. He probably assocaites just as much with DT as he does say OL's or RBs. Obviously he was going to WR camps and QB camps. My point is just because he is a QB has no bearing on the defensive talent he could bring along to UT. GO VOlS
