Ming chooses Tide over Vols

Defensive lineman William Ming from Athens (Ala.) High School committed to Alabama during an unofficial visit Tuesday, according to his mother, Susan Ming.

The 6-foot-3, 250-pound Ming chose the Tide over Tennessee, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, Florida State and Notre Dame.

Ming attended UT's junior day March 1. He also visited Auburn, LSU and Notre Dame.

The Vols were hoping to take advantage of a tie to Ming with defensive end Wes Brown, who graduated from Athens High in 2005.

Ming's commitment to Alabama isn't surprising. He grew up an Alabama fan and told the News Sentinel in March that distance would be a factor in his decision.

Ming also said he was impressed by the job of second-year head coach Nick Saban.

"I think he's a great coach and he's doing good things to make them rise," Ming said.

With 48 DB's who needs a tackle?

Dupree picked Kmart over Wal*Mart, but then he's a retard. Ming?

"I think he's a great coach and he's doing good things to make them rise"

all the way to 7-6!

What's AL's defense going to be.7-2-2?How many linemen have they got?

Posted by BSweet on July 22, 2008 at 10:21 p.m. (Suggest removal)

General, did Dupree's decision have anything to do with the flashing blue light?

Posted by PaulTheVol on July 22, 2008 at 10:22 p.m. (Suggest removal)

He should have no trouble getting playing time, everyone ahead of him is in jail.

Tuscaloosa woman dials 911 and screams that there is a burgler in her house. The police respond that they are busy right now but if she would just note his jersey number they will pick him up later.

Only surprise to me is that we were recruiting a DL. Whooda thunk it?

Saban would have beaten Louisiana Monroe if this kid had played.

Ming looks like my mental picture of Dupree.

Posted by volunteer_cowboy on July 23, 2008 at 5:43 a.m. (Suggest removal)

i hate bama but when u recruit 3 or 4 top 5 or 10 classes you will be better than 7-6

Posted by General_Watermelon on July 23, 2008 at 7:23 a.m. (Suggest removal)

cjrainey - you have a mental picture of Dupree? That ain't right brother. I suspect you like his gnarlyness.

BSweet - yes, the blue lights of Halls Crossroads surely was enticing to Dupree but there was one other factor. You see, one day Dupree thought it would be funny to put the Wal*Mart greeter in a shopping cart and push him down the hill. The poor old man in the cart went flying across the road, barely missing on-coming traffic, and finally turning over as he and the cart fell down a mud filled ravine. The police (Halls Crossroad's finest) were called to the scene. Dupree said excitedly, "I have never seen anything as pretty as the blue lights from the siren." That's when one of his fed-up managers told him about Kmart's Bluelight Special and suggested he look for employment there. The rest is history.
Halls has it!

gnm53108 9:38 - Saban is talking up his 9-2 D.
Part of his contract specifies that he get every DT available. Man knows something. Beware down the road....

Gen W - Dupree came by and told me he applied for the job of carrying Phil's head set cable during games. He said on his first dry run he only tripped him twice and caused one ear to bleed.

What is this on d-tackles now, 0 for 30?

Posted by capstone4117 on July 23, 2008 at 9:15 a.m. (Suggest removal)

William Ming is a beast.
Ever seen him play?
He reminds me of Pollack from GA.
Motor never stops.
How many of the top 5 players in your own state did u sign last year?

Posted by chad_t31 on July 23, 2008 at 9:24 a.m. (Suggest removal)

At 6'3" 250, his motor better not ever stop running. I know , i know "once he gets in the weightroom blah blah blah..." We need a lot more on the dl than just this kid.

Posted by mikevol on July 23, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Once again it's tough to pull DL out of their home state.. We need a few John Henderson's...

Posted by RichRollin on July 23, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Blah,Blah,Blah, as long as Saban is down there we had best get used to getting his leftovers, along with the left overs from our state. problem is, times have changed since the 90's, can't dominate every bordering state in recruiting when they all have National Champ. coaches. Butch Davis has no title but built a monster in Miami and his assistant is the best recruiting assistant in the country, even better than Doc Holliday!!

He has a hold that has managed to escape the eyes of all but the most watchful officials...the ming vise.

Posted by zanebreeding on July 23, 2008 at 10:35 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I have seen William Ming play , and he is FAR from a beast. He will be a solid player with the same "ole" , weight room workouts. Im not shedding too much sleep over this one capstone , let me know when he warrants the name "beast" in college or when he warrants my retraction of this comment. Personally i dont see it coming. Good luck this year with that going .500 thing. Tennessees in state talent and Alabamas is a litte different , thats why its even more sad that we barring a few exceptions wail on you and are the better program right now , because we get the vast majority of our recruits out of state , by luring them away from the " Faded Glamour" of schools like Bama.

Genral SeedSpitter do me and others a favor. You say what may that be? I have dear friends who have children/family that have conditions that reflect the word you toss out so easily about 'Dupree.' Lets see if you can be 'coached up' to no longer using that term. I know you mean no harm and it is all in jest, but it really isn't funny at all. For the record, any of us could be one stroke/car accident from finding ourselves or a loved one in that same condition. I figure then it might not be as funny to you anymore because it affected you directly. I think it just might be abusive by the rules andit ceratinly has nothing to do with topic. Think about b4 the shoe might be on your foot. Thanks! Oh if you don't know what word I'm referring to it starts with an R and rhymes with hard. Thank God you have the faculties to understand what I am saying. Gooday!

"parole tide parole"
I have lived in Alabama for 40 years and we have had our ups and downs with them, however, having been exposed to their arrogance I would pull for "Bin Ladin" over them. They are now having the same problems that all schools are having wiht the athelets of today. Athelets robbing students and then returning to the dorm? Brilliant.

Posted by vol4gzus on July 23, 2008 at 12:22 p.m. (Suggest removal)

pd if that was directed at me consider what I was striving for.....decency...did I ask for too much? I think ugly comments(intentional or not)should actually require individual poster too exercise common sense. Yes, think for yourself is fine, but be intelligent enough to recognize the difference between cute and uncalled for. I think this one is pretty cut and dry uncalled for. Priviledges usually are earned by proper performance/dignity etc. So a priviledge, in my humble opinion, is not extended to deragatory remarks that have great potential of hurting others. Relax, thats my final comment on subject. Have a blessed day and be a blessing to others! oh ,if not for me ,still have blessed day!

"Ming also said he was impressed by the job of second-year head coach Nick Saban."

If he was referring to the UT game then...OK... but the entire season for BAMA? With statements like that he would probably line up backwards with his shoes on the wrong feet.

Greervol22, agree with you on that one. Bammer fans are delusional. Fulmer has owned them since he became coach. Even though they beat us last year (i'm still trying to figure out how that happened) you'd think that the bear has risen from the dead by the way some talk. Satan has done nothing yet. Louisiana monroe?

Why would he want to play for the Nickster and have his skills properly developed when he could come here and play for a coach who cannot develop talent? I just don't understand it.

Posted by vol4gzus on July 24, 2008 at 4:35 p.m. (Suggest removal)

rocky_ opper that was certainly a nice post. I for one can tell you are a true fan concerned about our university and its team. Oh yeah, I discern you don't like our coach. You statement although isn't accurate. Sorry! That is what happens at every school. Some develop and some don't. So we can go over name after name and look at those who did and didn't pan out. So just say you don't like coach Fulmer and leave out the spin attempt. Watch out for the 'Ming' dynasty.

I bet you have a gold tooth also. LOL.
If you hate the Ming kid now, your really going to hate him when watching him kick UT's a** from the comfort of your own trailor home.
THE PROCESS IS UNDERWAY.
