Florida loses two safeties for season due to injuries
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida safeties Dorian Munroe and John Curtis will miss the upcoming season because of knee injuries.
Munroe tore the ACL in his right knee and will have season-ending surgery. The junior played in 26 games the last two years and was a key contributor on special teams. He led the Gators with 13 special teams tackles last season.
Curtis tore his left ACL for the third time. The senior already had two surgeries on that knee, and coach Urban Meyer said the latest injury could end his career.
Curtis played in 17 games the last three years, including 11 last season.
“I’m confident Dorian will battle through the rehabilitation process and come back a better football player,” Meyer said. “John has suffered through multiple knee injuries, and the medical staff along with John and his family will need to evaluate his long-term future in football.”

Two key losses in an already weak defensive backfield. This could get interesting.
On the other hand, I hate to hear of young men getting these kinds of injuries. Godspeed, fellas. Get well soon.

Get well, injured Gators.
I always pull for Tennessee, but I'd never wish a torn ACL on anybody. Our bodies and well-being are a lot more important than playin' pigskin.

that stinks, hate to hear about anyone having career ending injury, curtis can hopefully get a good education and make something positive out of a bad situation , keep your heads up gators .go vols

honestly your secondary will probably favor ours last year but maybe a little bit better to begin with.

Maybe Tebow can play both ways.

If you factor in the loss of S Jamar Hornsby due to felonious credit card use, UF is as thin at safety as the Vols are at defensive tackle.

maybe we can work out a trade , a safety or corner for a dtackle

Hate to hear that a kid's suffered a career ending injury. I hope he keeps his head up and stays strong. Maybe he can be the gators Inky. Just because you can't play doesn't mean you can't still be part of the team. I wish him the best. Well, I wish them both the best, but Curtis especially. It's never easy realizing you can't do what you love anymore.

They did get the #1&2 safeties out of high school, so if those guys qualify you have to think they would be better then what UF had last year! They were quite weak in the secondary last year but in the ends still did quite well, I'm guessing this year won't be any different if their top 2 freshman cb/safeties qualify, which it sounds like they will.. Luckily I live in Jville, FL to get the UF highlights daily... Not so great of an existance.. I will say they do have jimmy hyams on once every couple weeks down here.. Thats the only thinkg that I get to remind me of k-town... Definitely miss the all-vol all the time down here..!

Bad news for an already suspect secondary. Will have to really dominate at the line in order to take pressure off the inexperience back there. It may play better into our hands since we get them early in the season.

all you guys in florida ,do you think tebow will make a good nfl qb, cause i would like to see him in south fla playin on sundays next year

safeties are also critical to catch break away runs by running backs.
Posted by BAMABLOWS on July 12, 2008 at 9:56 p.m. (Suggest removal)
they are pretty critical in run support also
Posted by cjraney on July 12, 2008 at 9:57 p.m. (Suggest removal)
You're right mcbrim, safeties have no role in run support.

to be more specific about why a secondary is important in stopping the run:

DC...
In my opinion, Ahmad is a more natural fit at S than CB. At Lakeland, he was more of a linebacker that played center field, and a ball hawk to boot...The loss of depth (not to mention VERY solid ST guy) is bad, but yall are still in good shape at least on the 2 deep chart.
Best wishes John and Dorian...John, Inky is a great example that you can still contribute to your team and make a bad situation good, make it happen brother!
Posted by OrangePower11 on July 12, 2008 at 10:58 p.m. (Suggest removal)
DC,
Being astute as you seem to be, I'm sure you realize that yalls Sp.Tms could really take a step back with this loss.
I saw several occassions last season where teams used 2 if not 3 players to contain Munroe, which really limits what a return team can do.
Not trying to shed doom and gloom for yall, im sure UF has others who are hungry, but most people dont appreciate the impact made by standout ST guys.

I love seeing gators get hurt, but injured is another story. Injuries stink- and I feel for the guys. Now hurt (bell rung, snot bubbles, pain)is what we need to do to Tebow- early and often. It can change the game (make him pitch it early, hesitate, etc.) I just hope when we make blood come to his mouth that he doesn't get fired up like big john henderson in his pregame ritual.

I think most recognized the sarcasm in my "...no role in run support" comment. I never figured that even a mouth-breather like mcbrim would be dumb enough to take that seriously.
Hopefully for the gators' sake he's not a "real fan," i.e. no degree. heh, heh...

Tough luck for Curtis, hate to see anybody get derailed with injuries like that. Hopefully, he is taking care of business in the classroom and gets a degree because I doubt he has much football in his future as a player.
Looks like the Gators may have more questions than us on the defensive side of the ball come Fall.

I know a college athlete who had 3 acl rebuilds ... and THEN played junior and senior years of college sport.
First 2 acl rebuilds used hamstring grafts, one of which failed, and the 3rd used patellar tendon which was criss-crossed; Dr. Montgomery in Dallas says he has never had one of the latter to fail.

I see that Mcbrimm is still hoping (or praying) that Crompton will not be an effective QB. If UF's secondary does not have its sh_t together, Crompton and co. WILL smoke them, make no mistake about that. And I guarantee you that your secondary will see an orange shirted tailback up close during that game.
Well wishes to Monroe and Curtis, a very unpleasant aspect of athletics.

Hey mcrimjob.....if you're not so concerned...why do you keep visiting an opposing site's website? I call it trying to justify yourself?!?!?!?! It's pretty simple logic if you think about it. Then again I guess that's what a U of F degree will do for you....does your old lady not give you enough love? Pathetic...

mcbrim - LSU will tell you to be concerned. In Cromptons's first start (and they were blitzing), he torched them. He also ran over a safety and laid him on his back. He may not be the Roommate Kissing Circumcision Kid, but I think you are underestimating Johnathon Crompton just a little bit. I hope your team is just as over-confident.
