can you win an award that was already named after you? just curious...

VOLS85, obviously you can, but should you? Dane is one of my favorites, so I don't have a problem with it. I live in Nashville, so the only exposure I have to this league is through the KNS; but, it seems to be a very valuable tool being used by the UT basketball program, and their wizard coach, Bruce Pearl.

Is there a player who didn't win an award?

Why is John Elway the rising star award?
I understand the other non-Vol awards: Pete Rose (Charlie Hustle made hustle famous), Shaq (best big man) and Magic (most entertaining).
But John Elway?

The awards are Mike Griffith's creation. Elway is one of his heroes. Take it for what it's worth.

what happened to the casper award for wayne chism?for the biggest player not to be seen on the floor?hmmm, you think leaving at halftime at one game and not even showing up at the last game, plus not playing defence closer than 25 ft deserves an award?

talk about big john snodgrass which is the only type of real tall players we used to get ,get them cause they dominated in some single a class with the guys he played against in a distric with a 6 foot 1 guy gaurding him devoe always got those so called projects that might work withj 15 years to work wit uncordinated 6,11 or 7 foot 170 pounds of flesh and bone soking wet there was a bunch of jokes like him, that is why devoe got canned horrific recruits like that

No John Adams award?
Posted by wewhite on July 6, 2008 at 10:47 a.m. (Suggest removal)
John Adams award? You mean for the most mediocre and yet most acerbic player? Who would that be?

Mike Griffith, love the award names, but the big man award should not be named after Shaq. One of Tennessee's alltime rivals. Lest we forget the squirmish between he and Carlus Groves?
How about we name it the Steve Hamer Award? That guy was all heart and I never saw a player mature more in 4 years both on and off the court than did Hamer.

Bradshaw winning the Bradshaw is odd, but what's more odd is some of the awards have the names of football players, and these guys were not playing football....hmmmmm
Oh, and the award for not being seen on the floor should go to JP Prince.

ballewville6 interesting that most fans saw this, but Devoe never could. That along with the shot clock pretty much ended his career.
