Toyota drives past News Sentinel in third-place game

Carlton Hill hears of the exploits of Tennessee athletes every day while working as an academic counselor at the Thornton Center.

But now Hill, a former Alma (Mich.) basketball player, has a story to tell.

Hill hit the game-winning basket in Toyota of Knoxville’s 103-102 win over the News Sentinel, hanging in the air and banking a shot from just inside the 3-point line with 1.5 seconds left at Bearden High School.

The game, for third-place honors, was a rematch of last year’s Pilot Rocky Top League title tilt.

Hill, who received his Master’s Degree in Sports Psychology from UT, decided to play in the league after hearing about the action last year.

“This season has been a lot of fun,’’ said the 24-year-old Hill, who works specifically with the Vols’ football players but crosses paths with many athletes. “It’s been fun playing against a lot of the athletes I see in the Thornton Center.

“I don’t think they realized I could play the game, too.’’

Former Bearden standout Tony White Jr. led Toyota (4-3) with 26 points and Andy Tipton scored 17.

Former UT player Damon Johnson, now a pro in Spain, led the News Sentinel with 43 points, including 6-of-7 shooting from 3-point range.

Wow how enlightening, what a great article, maybe John Adams is off covering the fascinating Rocky Top League. JA any comment on the SEC "criminal" issues? Or are you playing point guard for the KNS BB team?
