Arkansas gives Pelphrey raise, extension

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas basketball coach John Pelphrey will see his salary increase to $795,000 and his contract extended one year to April 2013, athletic director Jeff Long says.

Long said written documentation for Pelphrey’s raise and extension still need to be completed, but will be done shortly.

Pelphrey currently gets a base salary of $750,000. His contract will continue to include incentive bonuses for winning Southeastern Conference regular-season and tournament titles, reaching the NCAA Tournament Sweet16 and Final Four and winning the national title and meeting academic goals.

Pelphrey was hired from South Alabama in April 2007. In his first season, he led the Razorbacks to a 23-12 record, including an 86-72 victory over Indiana in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. It was Arkansas’ first NCAA Tournament victory in nine years.

Long was hired from Pittsburgh in September 2007 and assumed his official duties Jan. 1 of this year.

“While I wasn’t here when we hired John, certainly he’s the kind of coach that I would be looking at, and I’m thrilled that he’s here,” Long said. “I think the job that he did (last season) was remarkable.”

Long noted that Pelphrey took over a team with six seniors.

Pelphrey, 40, said he appreciated Long and the university for their support.

“We will continue to work hard and operate a program Razorback fans can be proud of,” he said.

Pelphrey’s contract calls for him to be notified by Arkansas officials after the season if his agreement is being rolled over for the next year.

“I must admit I’m delayed a little bit in doing the paperwork, but we’ll get it done,” Long said. “It’s just a matter of getting everything together and producing the document.”

I wonder how he'll do without a bench full of seniors to call on.

this contract seems very Fulmer-esque (bar set low).

Woring, the world does not revolve around your hate for Fulmer. In a previous post you speak of "we" in the same sentence as the Vols. With your continued bashing I don't see how you can pull for the Vols.
