GREENSBORO, Ga. - Steve Spurrier brought his best golf game with his golf visor to Reynolds Plantation, and he left with $100,000 in scholarship funds for South Carolina.
Spurrier and former South Carolina star Sterling Sharpe combined for a 12-under 60 for a five-stroke win in Tuesday's Chick-fil-A Alma Mater tournament in which a coach and celebrity alumnus from 13 schools competed for $350,000 in scholarship funds.
UCLA's Rick Neuheisel and volleyball star Sinjin Smith and last year's winning team, Virginia Tech's Frank Beamer and Dell Curry tied for second at 7-under 65.
New Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson scored a hole-in-one in Monday's practice round. He used a pitching wedge on the par three, 130-yard 15th hole for his second career hole-in-one. There was no repeat ace on Tuesday, but Johnson teamed with Jon Barry for a fourth-place finish at 5-under.
Spurrier and Sharpe were paired with Colorado coach Bill McCartney and Kordell Stewart, who finished 3-under.
Jim Grobe and Billy Packer, representing Wake Forest, were 4-under. New Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez and Tampa Bay quarterback Brian Griese were 3-under.
Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville and Pat Sullivan, the former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback and current Samford coach, were 1-over.
Minnesota's Tubby Smith and Timberwolves TV analyst Jim Petersen finished 2-over, five strokes ahead of Alabama's last-place pairing of Nick Saban and Ken Stabler.
Last year, the $100,000 first-place prize won by Beamer and Curry was donated to families of the victims of the massacre on the Virginia Tech campus.
The competition will be televised on CBS on Christmas Day.

I'm surprised the Alabama team didn't get disqualified for cheating.

haha, to bad that will be Spurrier's only big win this year.

I guess Foolmore was herding fritters in Jackson Hole.

No CPF? Still out west riding that swaybacked horse? PETA alert.

Not everyone plays golf, you goobers!

I think Fulmer was on the Big Orange Caravan.

Whenever Fulmer is on it, believe you me, it's Big.

Been nice to have seen Chief and Big Phil frailing away. Belgian would have probably enjoyed it, too.
Oh well, golf spoils a beautiful walk.

PD: Chief doesn't travel well. May meet a DL.

Foolmore is probably helping an old lady cross the street in Jackson Hole as we speak.

Who needs DLs? Chief doesn't like to recruit, he'll take players from the offense that he likes and coach em' up.

Wimpy attempts at humor at the expense of our head coach again. Some of you ,with no apparent purpose in life except to be miserable as much as possible, keep the sad existence up to bring others down since misery loves company. The joke attempts are long past stale(not fresh). See if you can create something new that actually might be uplifting to others. There is always hope with faith.

So Saban found something else to do with his time. Probably still too upset about not being able to hit the recruiting trail that it just destroyed his golf game.

I'll have to say that I am mildy impressed with vols4jesus' recent posts. It's like he took a sabbatical and learned how to spell. I think I've read two whole posts now that I can somewhat understand.

Some of you sound like the Bammer Moron Nation when talking about Phil Fulmer. Let's not forget; he owns the Crimson Turd from Tuscaloser!
Posted by TommyJack on April 30, 2008 at 1:14 p.m. (Suggest removal)
IndianaVol: That ownership was woefully absent last Oct.

TJ, he is your spiritual conscience. A man so positive and uplifting that he has to wear sunglasses when he takes a dump.
Kingsport, I left this one open for a big finish...care to polish it off???

One game does not break domination.

Where was Foolmer?? They must have not been using golf carts. Phil must realize he could use a little WALK around the links. Probably too much good excercise for him to go.
Posted by Packaway on April 30, 2008 at 1:22 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Urban Meyer wasn't even there, so we know Phil wasn't scared to go because of him. Maybe he thought somehow Spurrier would outsmart him on the Golf course too? Maybe he was worried about Tuberville? Or maybe and the most likely reason was he didn't want to walk 18 holes of golf because he walked around Haslam Field "like heck" during Spring practice.

Fulmer doesn't play golf because he can't see the ball when he stands over it.
Posted by wjackson on April 30, 2008 at 2:11 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Saban probably finished last because he spent too much time trying to recruit the caddies since it would be just incidental contact with them. Spurrier would have been better off out recruiting instead of wasting his time their. He must be practicing for his next retirement.

I read on here that it was Coach Fulmer, not Judas, that betrayed Jesus.

Fulmer actually parted the Red Sea also...he jumped in.

Luckily Saban/Stabler didn't win.Since they won the recruiting title they have been seen strutting around claming their 13th national title. If Saban/Stabler had won this tournament they would already be sporting t-shirts claiming to be 14 time national champs.

GoVol 1:53 -Dead center, good 'un.
I would imagine Phil is enjoying the mountains out West. Don't know if any sking is available but mountain-climbing with a Alpine hat with feather would be nice. Add lederhosen and a yodel or two.........

Hey, since CFP or Chief couldn't make it why didn't we have Randy Sanders and Casey Clausen represent for UT?
