Tennessee quarterback Jonathan Crompton throws during the annual Orange and White Game on Saturday at Neyland Stadium.

Tennessee quarterback Jonathan Crompton underwent successful arthroscopic surgery to remove loose bodies in his throwing elbow Monday in North Carolina .

Crompton, who threw for 266 yards and three touchdowns in Saturday's Orange and White Game, is expected to fully recover from Monday's minor procedure in about four to six weeks, his doctor said.

Dr. Richard Jones, of Southeastern Sports Medicine, removed two to three "loose bodies" in Crompton's throwing - right - elbow.

"His elbow looked great otherwise," Jones said. "It went really well. We didn't have any problems."

Crompton can begin throwing once he regains a full range of motion in the elbow, which is expected to take between two and four weeks.

"It just depends on how he's feeling," Jones said. "We've got a lot of time to work with before the official practices start and the workouts start. I'm comfortable with the timetable we have."

Crompton is expected back in Knoxville this week and Tennessee's training staff will handle his rehabilitation.

The four- to six-week timetable means Crompton should be able to participate in UT's offseason conditioning program as well as work with receivers in Knoxville over the summer.

Without the procedure, Crompton ran the risk of having continued pain in the elbow as well as the possibility of the joint locking up.

Monday's surgery took about 45 minutes, Jones said, and took place at Park Ridge Hospital in Hendersonville, N.C., near Crompton's hometown of Waynesville, N.C.

Get well soon Jonathan. Ask for an LPN named Rose and tell her you need a back rub.

My elbow lacks complete range of motion for lifting cold ones on weekends. Probably over-use. Should I consult the same good doctor Jones?

DadwasaVol, give it a shot (no pun intended), and call the good doctor. He helped me recover from an incident involving a keg, but that's a story best left unrepeated.

Jon, good luck with rehab. Looking forward to you slinging it down the field some more.

dadwasavol. You should just switch arms. That way you won't have any down time.

Glad all went well, and hope a good recovery will follow. The back-ups need more practice, and we would not want to relay on the g-gun nomore then ones a game.

loose bodies are always better than tight ones and DadwasaVol, Kingsport taught me to alternate hands to keep my strength and dexterity up. Otherwise your beer gets warmer quicker with the casual left handed curl 'cause you drink slower.

Kingsport, I left this wide open for someone...

Dr. Jones is the same one that did his shoulder a few years back, I believe that turned out pretty well seeing the first play Saturday.

Amazing what docs can do nowadays, but rehab is all about how much the individual wants it. Crompton is an extremely driven individual that will overcome the injury and be ready for summer workouts. Glad to have him stepping up in the team leader's role. Nice work Dr. Jones.

Wow, And the way he was throwing Saturday. You couldn't tell he needed surgery. Let's hope it gets even better from here. Go Vols!!!!

How does one remove "two to three 'loose bodies'"? Can't these physicians count two or three, or do such procedures only lend themselves to estimation?

General Fritter, Is that the Rose that is married to Dupree or his daughter?

Gotta agree with jawbreaker (8:09 a.m.) on this one. Rule number 1: My doctor should be able to count - wouldn't want to have to have a kidney or something removed and ole' doc can't remember how many he already took out.

Gustoly - what does a guy do if he drinks with both hands at once? Be careful with that one....

jdcvols - what's the difference? When referencing Dupree, we are setting the scene in Halls Crossroads. Anything with a pulse. Every hole.

We need Crompton to have a huge season to win the east. Likely Florida has a talent lead on us but the best talent doesn't always win but it sure does help. They say Georgia is supposed to be good and we will see in early October. Auburn will be another tough game they whipped our buts bad at Neyland a few years ago and strangely seem to have Florida's number. Does Auburn and Florida play every year or is it rotated? I think Crompton the kind of QB who can scramble for 3 for a critical 3rd down to keep a game winning drive alive. We will see in September. GO VOLS!!!

UF plays LSU every year. They won't see Auburn again for awhile. If I'm not mistaken, they drop Ole Miss after this fall and pick up MSU. They have Ark the next two years.
