Former Tennessee men's basketball coach Jerry Green is expected to be named director of basketball operations at Oklahoma.
The Oklahoman reported Green has been in Norman house shopping.
Green last worked at Tennessee when he was fired after the 2001 season. He compiled a record of 89-36 in four years with the Vols, making the NCAA tournament each season and a share of an SEC title.
Postseason flops left fans complaining of unrealized potential. Green proved thin-skinned to criticism. Once on his radio show he said disgruntled UT fans could "go to the Kmart" rather than attend his team's games.
As his fourth team imploded after a 16-1 start, he virtually dared the administration to fire him and they did.
He received a $1.1 million buyout. In January of 2006, Green will receive the final installment of his buyout.
The 61-year-old coached against Oklahoma coach Kevin Sampson when the two were both in the Pac-10 -- Sampson at Washington State and Green at Oregon.
Green told the Tennessean that North Carolina coach Roy Williams was integral in getting him lined up with Oklahoma.
"I told Roy I was getting bored and had played all the golf I could play," said Green, who an assistant under Williams at Kansas. "Soon afterward, Roy was talking to Kelvin, and Kelvin mentioned that he was looking for a veteran coach to fill his basketball operations job. Roy told him he knew just the guy, and here we are."
It was Williams' endorsement to UT that helped him get the job with the Vols.
