UT Notebook: December 14

Chief in Charge: Defensive coordinator John Chavis handled media interviews with the absence of UT head coach Phillip Fulmer. Fulmer is on the recruiting trail visiting with Memphis offensive lineman Michael Oher and Collins, Miss., center Josh McNeil.

Brooks Brawl: Fulmer said he will handle the Daniel Brooks situation internally. Fulmer said he had not decided if Brooks' Dec. 1 fight warranted a suspension. Brooks did not practice Tuesday.

Six-Hour Rule: Fulmer said he did not expect any academic casualties for the Cotton Bowl as a result of the six-hour rule. All athletes must pass six hours in a semester to compete in post-season contests.

Fashion: UT will wear white jerseys in the Cotton Bowl. The Vols wore white the last time they visited Dallas. UT lost to Kansas State 35-21 in the 2001 Cotton Bowl.

Back in the Swing: Senior punter Dustin Colquitt returned to practice Tuesday. Fulmer said Colquitt missed practice on Monday to clear up an academic issue.

Injury Report: Freshman special teams performer Ellix Wilson is still hampered by a hamstring injury suffered in the SEC championship game. UT is still planning to hold Jason Allen (shoulder) and Cody Douglas (foot) out of this week’s practice sessions.

Both are expected back when the Vols begin practice in Dallas on Dec. 26.

Vol Note: James Banks is scheduled to visit UT-Chattanooga about a possible transfer after being dismissed by the UT last week.
