UT coach Phillip Fulmer said he's aware there was an incident, but to his knowledge no charges have been filed nor has an arrest warrant been issued.
"If there are, then we'll deal with it,'' Fulmer said. "I have talked to Daniel, and I'm still working on getting all of the details.''
According to a Knoxville Police Department incident report, Melvin Ellis accuses Brooks of starting a fight with him at 2 a.m. According to the 25-year-old Knoxville man, Brooks struck him in the face with his fist. The fight was broken up and an unknown bouncer sprayed them with pepper spray.
Brooks is listed as a suspect in the report and did not make a statement to police. Brooks did not talk with the media following Wednesday's practice.
Fulmer said it's his understanding Brooks was attending a party when the incident occurred. The incident might have also involved members of the UT track team, along with others.
Brooks, a sophomore, has played sparingly this season, mostly on special teams.
Brooks ranked among UT's highest-ranked recruits when he signed with the Vols out of Jackson Central-Merry High School in 2003. He played little as a true freshman and has yet to start a game for the Vols.
